More about St. John the Apostle

John was a fisherman and son of Zebedee whom Jesus called with his brother James. The Gospels place him with Peter and James at the raising of Jairus’s daughter, the Transfiguration, and the agony in Gethsemane. Christian tradition identifies him with the beloved disciple who remained near the Cross, received Mary as his mother, and reached the empty tomb with Peter. The Church also associates the Fourth Gospel, three letters, and Revelation with the Johannine witness.

The Gospel of John presents Jesus as the eternal Word made flesh and repeatedly joins belief in Him with love, obedience, and communion. Later tradition connects John’s ministry with Ephesus and remembers him as the Apostle who lived into old age. His witness teaches that Christian love rests on truth and gives itself in imitation of Christ. This novena asks for the grace to remain close to Jesus, receive Mary, and love the Church with patient fidelity.
