The Infant Christmas Novena is a nine-day preparation for the Nativity of the Lord, centered on the mystery that the eternal Son of God became a child for our salvation. Catholics pray it to receive Christ with Mary and Joseph and to prepare for Christmas through faith, repentance, and charity.

Christmas celebrates a real event in salvation history: Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem. The liturgy contemplates this mystery through the Gospel accounts of His ancestry, birth, the angels and shepherds, and the Word made flesh. A Christmas novena extends this preparation across nine days, often from December 16 through December 24. It is a popular devotion that supports the Church’s Advent worship but does not replace Mass or the Liturgy of the Hours.
Contemplating the Christ Child reveals both divine majesty and true human vulnerability. God enters a family, accepts poverty, and comes among people who must choose whether to welcome Him. The devotion therefore leads beyond seasonal sentiment toward conversion, care for children and the poor, reconciliation in families, and adoration of the Incarnate Word. This novena asks for a heart ready to recognize and receive Jesus at Christmas and throughout the year.
